Exempt Contract Length: Year-Round (260 Days) Founded in 2000, the Milwaukee Academy of Science (MAS) is a K4-12th grade independent charter school serving over 1,300 scholars. The mission of MAS is to graduate students prepared to compete successfully at the post-secondary level. African American students comprise 99% of the student body and over 95% of students qualify for free or reduced meals. Regardless of student background and external factors, MAS maintains the expectation that with the support of our school community all students can and will learn, and will graduate high school prepared for their post-secondary educational experience. Job Summary: The Director of Operations reports to the CEO and works directly with the Director of Facilities and Operations, Principals and department leaders to ensure effective and efficient internal school operations.

I. Position Relationships: Reports to: CEO

Direct Reports: Front Desk Staff, Transportation Coordinator, additional security/operations support positions including after school staff

Supervises: Arrival and dismissal teams

Coordinates with: CAO, Principals, Director of Facilities and Operations

III. Position Responsibilities:

  • Management of arrival and dismissal processes and associated staff
  • Support, and participate in collaborative teams that focus on attendance
  • Work with associated staff to collect data on all facets of attendance
  • Make recommendations to adjust practices based all facets of attendance
  • Supervisory responsibilities for Transportation Coordinator
  •  Oversight and management of the District’s front office to include staffing, customer service of guests, procedures and mail acceptance and delivery
  • Ordering non-capital school supplies
  • Management and ordering of school uniforms
  • Responsible for coordination of space allocation for partners and after school/summer programs
  • Lead and coordinate annual registration events
  • Coordinates K-12 space allotment, usage, and signage
  • Coordinates event set up
  • Ensures safety plan, drills, compliance

IV. Position Requirements

  • Three to five years of experience managing and leading a team in a school setting
  • A master’s degree in education or a related/relevant field preferred
  • Strong management, strategy, operations and communication skills with an ability to build relationships with all stakeholders to advance the school’s mission
  • A proven track record of setting goals, action plans and achieving results during challenges
  • A current school administrator license preferred
