Job Summary

As a Carpentry Supervisor, you will play an important role in overseeing trainee crews as they learn new job skills and build work experience in MCSC’s Work Projects Program.  Your leadership and support will help our trainees gain living wage jobs and help their families thrive.  The MCSC Carpentry Supervisor performs a variety of tasks including: training and supervising crew trainees; overseeing construction worksite projects and safety; completing time and attendance records and reporting; managing tools, equipment, and other resources. Strong communication and leadership skills as well as extensive carpentry knowledge are necessary to be successful in this role.

Supervisor: Work Projects Manager

Position: Full Time, Permanent, Hourly, Year Round

Pay Range: Commensurate with Skills & Experience

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Work Projects crews (trainees and employees) to ensure work projects are completed on-time and results are high-quality
  • Read and correctly interpret blueprints and designs
  • Oversee work projects throughout Metro Milwaukee including but not limited to installation of windows, doors, and siding, building rehabs and additions, and new construction. Other work projects include: snow removal, landscaping, turf maintenance, tree planting, and recycling.
  • Follow the daily schedule set by the Work Projects Manager. Set the pace for crew members.
  • Follow directions from the Work Projects Manager
  • Provide a high level of customer satisfaction
  • Ensure a high level of Quality on all work and projects completed by crews and Corps Members
  • Provide hands-on instruction to crew members for a variety of carpentry job skills
  • Treat the public, clients, co-workers, staff and others with respect and courtesy
  • Coach crew members to improve job skills, soft skills, and performance including productivity and quality
  • Model appropriate behaviors for such things as being on time, dressing appropriately for weather/jobsite, communication, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA guidelines and MCSC safety policies/procedures.
  • Ensure proper use of equipment. Report equipment failures to Work Projects Manager. Track daily inventory of tools, materials and equipment.
  • Keep projects sites, MCSC property and vehicles clean and safe.
  • Ensure crew members comply with MCSC policies/procedures
  • Accurately complete and submit timely required paperwork/reports including but not limited to: daily job reports, timecards for Corps Members, 2-week allocations, purchase requests, time off requests, incident reports, etc.
  • Communicate effectively and positively with Work Project clients to answer questions, respond to concerns, and generate additional/new business
  • Drive MCSC vehicles safely to transport equipment, materials, Corps Members, and trainees to and from job sites
  • Coach and encourage Corps Members and trainees on job skills, soft skills, and life skills
  • Build and support teamwork within crews
  • Complete incident reports and disciplinary actions for Assistant Crew Leaders, Corps Members, and trainees
  • All other duties assigned by MCSC Management Staff

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be a Journeyman of a specific trade (successful completion of an apprenticeship or 6 years in one trade)
  • Fluent in construction practices and safety
  • Read and interpret blueprints and designs
  • Well-versed in a broad range of carpentry skills such as windows, doors, rough carpentry, finish carpentry, and building maintenance
  • Must have and maintain a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and be Insurable
  • Reliable transportation to get to and from MCSC’s Milwaukee office
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Team player attitude and ability to effectively follow and communicate direction
  • Must hold required industry credentials such as OSHA10/30, Home Builders Institute’s PACT, Forklift Operator or gain and sustain required credentials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year supervisory, training, and or crew leadership experience – preferred
  • Experience in coaching, training, and/or mentoring a plus
  • Experience working with at-risk and disadvantaged individuals a plus
