Milwaukee Community Service Corps (MCSC) is a non-profit organization that provides education, life skills and job training opportunities for Metro Milwaukee’s at-risk young adults and unemployed and underemployed adults. These opportunities allow them to earn wages while improving the community as well as the environment.
Job Summary
Supporting MCSC’s Work Projects Program, the MCSC Supervisor performs a variety of supervisory tasks including training and performance coaching crew members; overseeing worksite projects and safety; completing time and attendance records and reporting; managing tools, equipment, and other resources. Strong coaching, communication, and leadership skills as well as landscaping and general handyman knowledge are necessary to be successful in this role.
Reports To: Work Projects Manager
Position: Full-time, Hourly
Pay Range: $22 – $26 Per Hour
Responsibilities:
- Supervise Work Projects crews (trainees and employees) to ensure work projects are completed on time and results are high-quality
- Complete new crew member (trainees and employees) orientations
- Oversee work projects throughout Milwaukee County including turf maintenance, snow/ice removal, landscaping, tree maintenance, and other projects
- Set the pace for crew members
- Coach crew members to improve job skills, soft skills, and performance including productivity and quality
- Ensure compliance with OSHA guidelines and MCSC safety policies/procedures
- Ensure crew members comply with MCSC policies/procedures
- Process and check timecards and job reports to ensure accuracy
- Communicate effectively and positively with Work Project clients to answer questions, respond to concerns, and assist in generating additional/new business
- All other duties assigned by MCSC Management Staff
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Self-motivated and organized
- Reliable transportation to get to and from MCSC’s Milwaukee office
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and Insurable
- Well-versed in a broad range of landscaping and turf maintenance skills including necessary equipment.
- General knowledge of safe workplace practices and ability to lead a safe worksite
- Able to lift 50 lbs.
- Team player attitude and ability to effectively follow and communicate direction
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year supervisory, training, and or crew leadership experience – preferred
- Experience in coaching, training, and/or mentoring – a plus
- Experience working with at-risk and disadvantaged individuals – a plus
- Experience snowplow driver, use of a wood chipper, use of a stump grinder – a plus
- People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply
Schedule & Location
- 8 hour shift – Monday to Friday with occasional evening and weekends as weather dictates
