About the Milwaukee Justice Center
The Milwaukee Justice Center (“MJC”) is a public-private collaboration between the Milwaukee County Clerk of Courts, the Milwaukee Bar Association (“MBA”), and Marquette Law School offering self-help civil legal aid to individuals who cannot afford an attorney and who are representing themselves in Milwaukee County cases. With a staff of eight and an annual volunteer corps of over 300, the Milwaukee Justice Center assists around 10,000 people in its services each year. These services include Family Forms Assistance, the MJC Mobile Legal Clinic, and more. The MJC also hosts the Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinics at the MJC, on the Mobile Legal Clinic in the Milwaukee community, and through the Expungement / Pardon clinic.
About this Position
The AmeriCorps Program Coordinator is a member of the Milwaukee Bar Association team located at the Milwaukee Justice Center. The MJC created an AmeriCorps Service Program to expand the accessibility of the Milwaukee County Courthouse through courthouse navigation services to assist all who enter the building. The goal of this position is to ensure the professional and effective performance of this program through quality supervision and training of AmeriCorps members and other volunteers, as well as strict compliance with the AmeriCorps policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with AmeriCorps programs, committed to the mission of the Milwaukee Justice Center to further access to justice for all, and be an outstanding collaborator. We are seeking someone who is curious, culturally humble, and interested in program development.

Position Responsibilities
- Recruit, train and supervise AmeriCorps member staff (Team Leaders, members, and volunteers) for information desk and navigation program.
- Create and implement a plan for AmeriCorps member professional development.
- Implement Courthouse Navigator processes and procedures for members to respond to public questions, requests for information, and assistance on a variety of inquiries including legal issues [pursuant to SCR 70.41 (Assistance to Court Users)], procedural questions, and general courthouse complex navigation.
- Delegate and coordinate navigator assignments, data entry, and other project work assignments to AmeriCorps Member staff and volunteers, as appropriate.
- Work in collaboration with the Milwaukee Justice Center team to create and maintain resources for navigation program functions. Work in coordination with other courthouse staff as needed.
- Adhere to all AmeriCorps program guidelines and ensure program and member compliance.
- Gather and maintain program data and creation of reports for AmeriCorps program in collaboration with Milwaukee Justice Center staff.
Education, Skills, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of leadership or program management experience OR Associate’s degree and 2 years of experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Communication, or closely related field preferred.
- Or Associate’s degree in paralegal studies, government or court administration, management, volunteer management, or closely related field preferred.
- Leadership or program management experience may be during academic career.
- Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Background Check required.
- Ability to interact with a high client volume in a busy, public-facing environment required.
- Ability to communicate with a variety of program stakeholders to both gather and share information relevant to stakeholder engagement (eg. members of the public, interdepartmental staff, AmeriCorps staff, and County leadership) required.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills required.
- Prior supervisory experience of staff or volunteers preferred.
- Experience with AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps related programs, federally funded grant programs, or other long-term service programs preferred.
- Other language abilities are not required, but preferred.
Work Hours and Schedule
In-person, Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm.
Infrequent overtime, evening/weekend hours.
Salary and Benefits
The starting annual salary is $50,000. As a member of the Milwaukee Bar Association team at the Milwaukee Justice Center, this position is eligible for full-time benefits including health insurance, a health savings account, retirement program, 12 days of paid time off with additional time off when the Milwaukee Justice Center is closed (e.g. 8-10 days of Christmas break, County major holidays), and a complimentary Milwaukee Bar Association membership and attendance at MBA events.
