Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Director of Student Support Services, the Student Support Coordinator serves as a specialist for Next Door by supporting students, and teaching teams of children referred to Birth to Three Services, Milwaukee Public Schools, Next Door Charter as well as center and home based special education referral processing and monitoring of referrals and ASQ compliance and quality assurance. The Student Services Support Coordinator will help teachers identify students with suspected developmental delays and support teachers through the referral process with students referred for challenging behaviors. The Coordinator will document and follow up with 504 or Special Education Team meetings and communicate with parents, teachers, and staff regarding progress or further screenings needed. The Coordinator may also assist general education teachers in selecting appropriate curricula and developing and implementing appropriate strategies.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Monitors developmental and behavioral compliance and quality assurance.
  • Coordinates referral process for any suspected disabilities, which includes a tracking system for follow up.
  • Assist with coordination, monitoring of compliance and follow up of all required developmental and behavioral screenings for all center based, homebased, as well as Child Care Partnership sites.
  • Maintain and review ChildPlus Disability records to meet the Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Transitions children with disabilities and those in the diagnostic process to their next destination, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
  • Collaborates with LEA and Part C agencies (Birth to Three) to ensure integrated, coordinated provision of special services.
  • Participates in staffing children and IEP/IFSP meetings as requested.
  • Explore community resources for services to children with disabilities to share with staff and families.
  • Maintain accurate and updated documentation on Child Plus database system in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Pursue, develop and maintain community partnerships within the Early Intervention arena to enhance service for families.
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with partners including Milwaukee County Birth to Three and Milwaukee Public Schools.
  • Maintain collaborative efforts with Next Step Clinic and Ignite for autism assessments and on-site ABA therapy.
  • Participate actively in all team meetings, staff meetings, peer consultation, individual reflective supervision, and school meetings as requested and collaborate proactively with mental health and special services team.
  • Develop relationships and ongoing communication with teachers and other staff; provide concrete strategies for positive and feasible individual and class intervention strategies
  • Provides training to staff on mental health and disability topics as needed.
  • Will complete all paper and Child Plus documentation (observation notes, transaction notes, observation reports, etc.).
  • Participates in grant-funded projects related to MH and Disability support.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and Early Childhood Education: Exceptional Educational Needs.
  • Three years of prior experience.

Special Position Requirements

  • Knowledge of best practices in supports for at-risk students.
  • Ability to effectively consult and collaborate with school leaders in processes related to student support services.
  • Knowledge of effective strategies, curriculum, and instruction to support all students.
  • Professional oral and written communication skills, including academic report writing.
  • Proficiency in operating standard office equipment including a variety of software applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Google (docs, sheets, forms, drives), and virtual meeting platforms (TEAMS, Google Meet, Google Chat etc.).
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, work under time constraints, and be flexible in an environment of multiple tasks.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and present professional learning to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to effectively direct, plan, implement and evaluate programs in a school-based environment.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead people and provide direction.
  • Ability to interpret policy and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and the public from diverse cultural, social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas and experience.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed between in-person work environments.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Must have a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and dependability.
  • Must be able to maintain accurate records.
  • Experience with coordinating meetings between multiple stakeholders preferred.
  • Experience / coursework specializing in intervention processes preferred.

Preferences

  • Master’s Degree Preferred.

  • Ability to respond quickly and competently to an emergency or crisis situation in order to keep staff and children safe.

Special Position Requirements

  • The incumbent must have access to a personal vehicle to use on a daily basis, maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance with liability limits of $300,000 (bodily injury) and $25,000 (property damage for each occurrence).
