Job Summary
The Lead Life Navigator emphasizes practical daily living skills, parenting support, and household management. This role provides hands-on guidance in the home, family center, and children’s spaces, ensuring participants gain the practical tools to create safe, stable households.
Duties
- Model and teach household management (meal prep, cleaning routines, organization).
- Provide parenting support, including establishing child routines (bedtime, feeding, school prep).
- Oversee the Muhindi Room (our early education room): maintain environment, supplies, and developmental activities for children.
- Document child development observations and review with mothers regularly.
- Guide participants in budgeting, savings plans, and practical financial literacy.
- Facilitate group sessions on life navigation skills (time management, home routines, budgeting).
- Conduct home visits to reinforce household structure and safety.
- Ensure family center spaces are clean, stocked, and supportive for participant use.
- Support organizational initiatives by engaging participants in activities at Umoja Center, Sankofa Club, and Ujamaa retail space.
- Maintain administrative records specific to daily household and children’s support activities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to model and teach practical life skills (budgeting, home management, parenting routines).
- Experience working directly with young children and supporting child development.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build trust while working side-by-side with participants.
- Skilled in facilitating group learning and peer support activities.
- Ability to observe and provide constructive feedback in real-time during daily activities.
- Strong problem-solving and adaptability in dynamic household settings.
- Physical ability to support household tasks (lifting, organizing, and maintaining family center spaces).
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and its application in daily coaching.
Focus Area: Hands-on skill-building and household/child development support
Requirements
- Must pass a background check and drug test.
- Must be physically able to climb and descend up to three flights of stairs multiple times daily and lift 25 lbs. as needed.
- Minimum of an associate’s degree in human services, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, or a related field; bachelor’s degree preferred from an accredited college or university.
- Two or more years of relevant experience working with young adults, families, or children.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to trauma-informed care and culturally competent practice.
- Proficiency with computers and basic office software (Microsoft Office, email, data entry systems).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
