Position Overview
The Ostara Initiative Board of Directors is seeking a passionate, mission-driven individual with a strong background in fundraising and a demonstrated commitment to maternal health and criminal justice reform. The ideal candidate will bring strategic leadership, governance experience, and a deep desire to contribute their time, expertise, and network to support the growth and sustainability of the organization.
This role is ideal for someone who values social impact, believes in the power of advocacy, and is eager to be part of a visionary team driving systemic change.
Key Responsibilities
- Fundraising & Development
- Leverage personal and professional networks to identify and secure financial contributions, sponsorships, and partnerships.
- Actively participate in annual fundraising initiatives and events.
- Support the development of fundraising strategies to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
- Leadership & Governance
- Provide strategic direction and oversight to ensure alignment with Ostara Initiative’s mission and goals.
- Serve as an ambassador and advocate for the organization within your community and professional circles.
- Participate actively in board meetings, committees, and strategic planning sessions.
- Uphold fiduciary, legal, and ethical responsibilities as a board member.
- Engagement & Advocacy
- Champion Ostara Initiative’s work in maternal health and criminal justice reform.
- Stay informed about emerging trends, policies, and practices relevant to Ostara’s mission.
- Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive board culture that reflects Ostara’s values of equity, justice, and compassion.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience serving on nonprofit boards or in similar leadership capacities.
- Proven experience in fundraising, donor cultivation, and development strategy.
- Strong alignment with Ostara Initiative’s mission, particularly regarding maternal health and criminal justice reform.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Willingness to contribute a minimum of 5 hours per month, including attendance at
- meetings and participation in events or committees.
- Ability to serve as a credible and passionate advocate for the organization.
Term & Commitment
- Board members typically serve a renewable two-year term.
- Expected to attend monthly meetings (virtual) and annual in person retreat committee.
- Engage in fundraising activities, donor outreach, and organizational events as opportunities arise.
