Peaceful Purpose, Inc. (PPI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping restore confidence through compassion and care to those experiencing medical hair loss. We provide free or low-cost wigs to women and girls who experience hair loss due to medical treatments or conditions.

Position: Treasurer

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Treasurer to join our board and play a vital role in ensuring the financial health and integrity of PPI. The Treasurer will serve as a guardian of the organization’s finances, providing strategic oversight, transparency, and expert advice to the board on all financial matters.

Peaceful Purpose is located in Appleton, WI. This position can be remote, and applicants do not need to live in our service area. The board meets monthly and additionally as needed for committee work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Oversight: Monitor the organization’s financial status, including cash flow, liabilities, and assets. Review and analyze financial statements for accuracy and compliance. Enter AP and AR details into QBO and reconcile monthly to bank statements. Support the board with clear financial reporting.
  • Budget Management: Lead annual budget development with the Finance committee and board. Present budgets for approval, ensure strategic alignment, monitor compliance, and recommend adjustments as needed.
  • Reporting and Communication: Provide monthly financial reports (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements) and monthly treasurer summaries at board meetings. Ensure timely submission of IRS Form 990 and state-specific financial reports. Communicate financial matters effectively with board, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Assess and mitigate financial risks. Ensure adequate insurance coverage and legal compliance. Oversee accurate record-keeping and internal controls.
  • Fundraising Support: Collaborate with the development team and board to align fundraising efforts with organizational financial needs. Support financial planning for campaigns, grants, and revenue activities.
  • Audit and Compliance: Coordinate annual audits or financial reviews. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Work with board and legal advisors to maintain nonprofit tax-exempt status.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Professional Background: Experience in financial management, accounting, or related fields. Familiarity with nonprofit financial management preferred. Proficiency in financial software and spreadsheets.
  • Key Competencies: Analytical thinking, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and leadership ability.
  • Personal Attributes: Integrity, ethical responsibility, commitment to PPI’s mission, flexibility, and adaptability.

Expectations for the Role

  • Time Commitment: Attend all monthly board meetings, finance committee meetings, and relevant subcommittee meetings. Additional hours required for budgeting, audits, and reporting. Data entry and monthly reconciliation for approximately 2 hours per week.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with board members and act as a liaison with external financial consultants, auditors, and legal advisors.
  • Advocacy: Promote financial literacy among board members and champion transparency and accountability.
  • Conflict of Interest: Maintain objectivity and disclose any potential conflicts to the board promptly.
