 JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Development Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Executive Director and Development/Fundraising Committee

HOURS: Full-time, 9 AM – 5 PM, Monday – Friday. Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities for which comp time will be available. Hybrid option with possibility to do some work from home but requiring the ability to attend on-site and off-site meetings with donors, prospective donors, staff, board and committee members, and other partners.

POSITION OVERVIEW:  The Development Coordinator will work with the Executive Director and the Development/Fundraising Committee to coordinate fund development efforts within the organization, including, but not limited to: an annual individual giving campaign, grant funding, special events and sponsorships, social media campaigns, outreach to faith communities, and cultivation of individual donors. Potential of position advancing to Development Director based on performance and results.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of donor software is a plus
  • Accurate data entry skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability and desire to successfully engage with people from many backgrounds and points of view
  • Fund development and/or nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and relationship building.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collaborate with the Executive Director, Development/Fundraising Committee, and the Board of Directors to implement a comprehensive fund development plan encompassing all areas listed in “Position Overview.”
  2. Steward existing donors and assisting in building a pipeline of new donors through individualized gift solicitations, appropriate and prompt “thank you” letters, follow up with special event attendees, and other donor/volunteer recognition.
  3. Work with Special Events committees to maximize the effectiveness of fundraising events, including an annual banquet, annual golf outing, and additional special events.
  4. Manage large mailings, including content, quality control, and the mailing process itself.
  5. Coordinate a team of public speakers from staff, board members, and clients to assist with fundraising presentations to potential donors.
  6. Contact congregations to schedule Project RETURN outreach opportunities within faith communities.
  7. Engage in prospect/donor research to expand Project RETURN’s base of support.
  8. Attend relevant events and meetings, some during evenings and weekends, to represent Project RETURN and its programs.
  9. Coordinate with the grant writer and the Executive Director to assure timely completion and submission of grant proposals.
  10. Enter data that reflects donor activities into the central accounting system, assuring accurate reporting.
  11. Assist with the creation of relevant statements and reports for the administrative team, for funding sources, for the board of the Board of Directors, and for Finance and Administrative Committee.
  12. Coordinate with Communications/Marketing Committee to update social media posts in relationship to development activities.
  13. Participate in continuing education opportunities to deepen understanding and knowledge of best practices in fund development.
  14. Assist in the formulation and execution of policies related to fund development, including confidentiality of donors and protection of donor information.
  15. Comply with all agency policies.
  16. Perform other related duties, as assigned.
