The Community Coordinator ministers to the School Sisters of Notre Dame at Our Lady of the Angels. The Community Coordinator is responsible for meeting the SSND’s personal needs and collaborates in forming community with the other SSND Community Coordinator and the Community Coordinator’s of other religious congregations in the building.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Integrate the mission, values, and policies of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in the work environment
- Work with the other Community Coordinators, SSND staff and OLA Administration to provide a smooth admission process for new OLA residents
- Serve as an advocate for the Sisters with the Administration, medical providers, and any others with whom the Sisters relate
- Believes in the integrity of each resident and shows her respect
- Ensure participation of each member in pursuing a high quality of life
- Exhibit a listening and compassionate presence to lower stress
- Communicate appropriate information regarding the Sisters to the Provincial Council, Sisters’ families, medical providers, companion Sisters, and others as appropriate
- Observes behavioral changes and communicates these to the appropriate staff
- Honors the confidentiality of the sisters and staff
- Visit sisters if they are in the hospital, and coordinates pastoral-type visits
- On-call after business hours to accompany sisters to the emergency room as needed
- Help prepare Sisters as death approaches, arrange for a wake service at OLA and funeral at Trinity Woods and lead the wake service prior to her funeral
- Distribute and/or dispose of a Sisters’ personal belongings after her death
- Prepare annual community budget, make purchases as necessary and submit reports as required
- Coordinate events to celebrate special occasions like SSND feast days, Jubilee, and Sisters’ birthdays
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Provincial Council and any other services to facilitate a quality of life for the Sisters
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, relatable faith-based degree or healthcare degree preferred
- Experience working in a religious setting or having a religious background is preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Interest and desire to work with our senior sisters, preferably having a background in social work, social services, and/or elder care
- Understanding of the aging process and issues of diminishment, especially regarding memory loss and death, or the willingness to learn
- Has knowledge and understanding of dementia to relate compassionately and appropriately
- A desire and ability to learn more about School Sisters of Notre Dame charism and willingness to embrace the SSND mission
- Concerned for the common good and works well as a team builder
- Ability to discern with others
- Collaboration, communication and relational skills
- Organizational Skills
- Objectivity, flexibility & patience, sense of humor and cheerfulness
- Ability to work on-call
- Valid Driver’s License and Auto Insurance
- Ability to drive at night
