Position Information 

St. Augustine Preparatory Academy is seeking candidates to fill the available full-time Early Childhood School Social Worker position.  The EC-SSW will manage a case-load of K4-2nd grade students. The EC-SSW will promote positive early childhood mental health and must possess thorough knowledge of early childhood development, coupled with an understanding of family dynamics and trauma informed care.  The goal of the EC-SSW will be to enhance the educational success of students by assisting in identification and assessment of the student’s needs including social, emotional, behavioral and adaptive needs: providing intervention services including individual, parent and family support; providing consultation and planning; and serving as liaison between home, school and community. Serving as a team representative, the EC-SSW applies these domains of knowledge to the educational community through a problem-solving perspective for children in K4-2nd grades. This position will also include some “after school hours” providing parent information and education sessions.

Reporting Structure: Early Childhood School Social Worker will report to the Social Work Team Lead

Performance Responsibilities

  • To bring applied knowledge of the developmental needs of young children, the psychology of learning, progress monitoring and behavior intervention skills. 
  • Manage a caseload of students and provide faith-based behavior interventions, as well as communicate and collaborate with their families to provide parent intervention support and guidance.
  • Facilitate parent workshops and support groups to provide parent education on general parenting, human growth and development, how to support their early childhood students in school and other topics as they arise. as needed. 
  • Able to provide assessment, developmental screenings, service plan developments, developmental interventions, re-assessment and follow-up for both school and home as needed.
  • Serve as a bridge between the school and home, focusing on helping parents to understand specific ways on how to help their child succeed in the classroom. This will include home visits.
  • Ability to work independently and be innovative in assessing, developing interventions providing educational services and problem solving
  • Collaborate, communicate and consult with classroom teachers
  • Work in collaboration with the student deans and social work teams as concerns arise.
  • Plan and lead Professional Development to better equip faculty and staff
  • Collaborate with Special Education Department as needed
  • Assist the school in developing behavior intervention plans 
  • Maintain up-to-date case note documentation
  • Complete mandated reports per mandating reporting WI state laws
  • Perform related work or additional school functions as required

Required Qualifications:

  • A belief in the ability of every child and a commitment to ensure excellence for each student.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, with major or minor in psychology, counseling or social work. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Highly effective oral and written communication skills; Bilingual in Spanish – written and oral
  • Professionalism and discretion.
  • Demonstration of knowledge and competence in the practice of lifespan development and age appropriate behavioral interventions in educational settings, including basic assessment, intervention and parent education
  • Has an understanding of trauma informed care 
  • Demonstration of organizational skills
  • Demonstration of ability to organize and present to small and large groups
  • Ability to perceive, understand, and respond well to the emotional state of others.
  • Compassion and empathy for students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in order to provide services when parents are available
  • Participating member in a local Church.
  • Have a passion to integrate faith with their practice
