Founded in 2016, Street Angels is a mobile outreach organization dedicated to assisting individuals in ending their unsheltered homelessness by providing dignified services, advocacy, a consistent support system, connections to critical resources, and hope. Our compassionate staff and volunteers travel directly to those who are experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Milwaukee County to provide assistance in meeting immediate basic needs and long-term solutions.

 

Company Description:

We are currently providing boots-on-the-ground programming five days a week through our Mobile Outreach and Showers of Hope programs. Additionally, we provide a Pathway Assistance program to assist with the removal of immediate barriers on one’s pathway to stability. Through these efforts, we remain committed to building trust, fostering hope, making critical connections to resources, and empowering individuals on their journey toward safe and stable housing.

Job Title: Community Engagement & Development Specialist

Reports To: Executive Directors

Status: Full-Time Hourly

Position Summary

The Community Engagement & Development Specialist plays a key role in advancing the mission of Street Angels by building and maintaining meaningful relationships between the nonprofit and the community. This person serves as the connector- engaging volunteers, local partners, donors, and the general public in the organization’s mission. Blending community engagement, event coordination, and donor/volunteer support, this position is meant to assist in strengthening community relationships, increasing visibility, and driving fundraising success.

Key Responsibilities

Event Planning & Fundraising Support

  • Assist in planning and executing fundraising events and other community initiatives.
  • Support peer-to-peer fundraising, donor cultivation, and sponsor engagement efforts.
  • Help coordinate logistics, materials, and volunteers for events.
  • Assist in recruiting donors and sponsors

Community Engagement

  • Represent Street Angels at community events and speaking engagements.
  • Coordinate tabling opportunities to increase awareness and strengthen partnerships.
  • Assist with building and maintaining relationships with businesses and corporations.
  • Recruit and coordinate individual volunteers and corporate volunteer groups.
  • Work with volunteer groups as needed ensuring meaningful and organized participation.

Communications & Social Media

  • Assist with managing social media accounts by monitoring community interaction.
  • Assist with email marketing, newsletters, and website updates.
  • Respond to general inquiries via phone and email, ensuring timely and professional communication.
  • Maintain volunteer communications, scheduling, and recognition.

Other Duties

  • Recruit and coordinate in-kind donors for items such as clothing, food, and supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining donor and partner stewardship efforts through engagement and appreciation efforts.
  • Track and maintain engagement data, volunteer hours, and event participation for reporting and impact measurement.
  • Collaborate with leadership to strengthen the organization’s community presence.
  • Provide support as needed to teammates.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in communications, nonprofit management, marketing, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 1–3 years of experience in community engagement, event planning, development, or volunteer coordination (nonprofit experience preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a passion for community service.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiarity with social media management and basic graphic design tools such as Canva.
  • Organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible schedule; ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events or community engagement.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting Salary: Between $24.00 and $25.50/hour, depending on qualifications and experience
