The Difference Principle, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting other nonprofits in realizing their visions and fulfilling their missions.  We offer high quality back-office administration and support services to independent nonprofit organizations in addition to our two social justice subsidiary organizations/agencies, JusticePoint and Sirona Recovery.

This position will support the accounting team by taking ownership of most aspects of accounting for multiple independent nonprofit organizations, including accurate processing of accounts payable and receivable, payroll, daily financial entries, monthly reconciliations and reporting as well as working closely with clients to provide financial insight. In addition, this position will assist with day-to-day operations of The Difference Principle and subsidiaries.  Duties and responsibilities will include:

CLIENT RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for daily entry of transactions into accounting system
  • Generating accurate and timely invoices on behalf of clients based on contract terms and services rendered
  • Processing of accounts receivable and accounts payable, ensuring accurate and timely payments
  • Entering new vendors into the accounting system also ensuring form W9 has been completed
  • Assist with 1099 Preparation
  • Processing of payroll, including calculating employee wages, processing deductions and benefit related data as applicable
  • Managing fixed assets including tracking fixed asset purchases, recording depreciation and accounting for disposals as applicable
  • Completing month end accruals and journal entries
  • Monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts including reconciling bank statements with financial records, and identifying and resolving discrepancies
  • Preparing and presenting monthly financial reports
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual budgets
  • Preparing for year-end audit as applicable
  • Reviewing systems and processes to streamline and add efficiency

AGENCY RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES (Assisting Current Accounting Team as Needed):

  • Verifying, classifying and recording grant activity including revenues, expenses, accounts receivables and deferred revenue on grant reports
  • Preparing financial statements in the accounting software for each grant including reconciliation of the revenue and expenses
  • Reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts
  • Payroll processing, serving as backup if needed
  • Preparing month end reconciliations
  • Assisting with annual audit
  • Preparing grant budgets
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in Finance or Accounting
  • Minimum of three to five years’ experience in accounting role
  • Experience in the preparation of GAAP financial statements preferred
  • Experience with ProLiant payroll software a plus
