The Women’s Center in Waukesha, WI is looking to hire a 24 hour a week part-time Violence Prevention Advocate to provide community engagement and psychoeducation to students and professionals on topics ranging from domestic abuse, sexual assault/abuse, and Human Trafficking. This community education position earns a competitive wage of $15.00 hour/$18,720.00 annually. ABOUT THE WOMEN’S CENTER

Founded in 1977, our mission is to provide safety, shelter, and support to empower all impacted by domestic abuse, sexual violence, child abuse, and trafficking. We offer 24-Hour Hotline support, an emergency shelter, transitional living, one on one support, support groups, employment and life skills, rape crisis response, and community education. All of our services are confidential and offered at no cost. Our holistic, trauma-informed programming emphasizes healing, empowerment, and justice so that survivors can move beyond abuse and build peaceful futures for themselves and their families.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE VIOLENCE PREVENTION ADVOCATE

In this community education position, you can design your work week! You will be a part of creating and implementing presentations that are interactive and impactful. Each week is a new opportunity to engage with local educators to implement direct age-appropriate school-based prevention education about the warning signs of abuse and human trafficking, or differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships. When it isn’t the school year, you continue relationship building and coordinate and facilitate outreach/awareness activities with businesses, faith-based communities, and other local events. Each activity and presentation is tailored to meet the audience needs.

This flexible position requires both independent working skills combined with exceptional communication to connect with diverse populations.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A VIOLENCE PREVENTION ADVOCATE

  • Associate degree in Education, Communication, or Human Services -OR- combination of work 1-year professional experience working with trauma survivors and education will be considered in lieu of a college degree.
  • Knowledge about sexual assault, and domestic violence
  • Strong advocacy, listening, and crisis intervention skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and proof of insurance
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

Bilingual abilities would be a plus. Do you have excellent verbal and written communication skills? Are you organized and attentive to detail? Can you manage your time well? Are you able to work independently as well as with a team? Are you comfortable conducting outreach via phone and email? WORK SCHEDULE FOR A VIOLENCE PREVENTION ADVOCATE

This community education part-time position works as presentations are requested. Hours vary from 7am to 8pm based on demand with remote opportunities.
