As office manager to the graduate and undergraduate programs and the newly-opened Emile H. Mathis Gallery operations, the Art History Administrative Assistant III (AAIII) position assists the Department Chair, Directors of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies, and the Director of the Emile H. Mathis Gallery and Curator of the UWM Art Collection, with the planning, managing, and administration of programmatic responsibilities related to an academic department and a university art gallery. This position requires knowledge of university and college policies and procedures as well as a command of computer software and programs used in conducting university, college, and department business, including budget and accounting, class scheduling and enrollment, and student matriculation.

Among other duties, the AAIII:

  • Maintains budgetary records, processes orders, and requisitions, including faculty/staff travel expense reports
  • Oversees information dissemination to prospective and current students
  • Helps maintain and update the department website and social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Coordinates Department and Gallery events
  • Performs administrative duties relating to the degree and internship programs, assessment, and the appointment and contracting of graduate teaching assistants and ad hoc instructors
  • Maintains confidential files.
  • Accepts project assignments to assist the Department Chair with organizing, writing, general preparation, and presentation of materials as required for meetings and reports
  • Provides support to Department faculty in their teaching, research, and public service activities
  • As the public face of the Department, the position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demands a substantial degree of independent decision-making, initiative, and sound judgment in all facets of Department functions, including the acquisition of new technology

Finally, this position also functions in the L&S Division of Humanities where tasks will be shared amongst departments.
