Position Summary:
The Bookkeeper is responsible for processing financial transactions for the organization’s day-to-day operations and special projects.
Compensation: $18.50 – $20/hour

Location: Primarily the Riverside Park branch, Milwaukee, WI (in-person)
Schedule: This position will work 20 hours/week, with a preference for hours worked on Tuesdays – Thursdays.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Record all financial transactions into Quickbooks, following established accounting procedures.
- Create and send invoices to customers.
- Monitor and manage accounts receivable balances by sending additional reminders and communicating past due balances or problem balances with departments.
- Coordinate with the Development team and align and reconcile all reporting with their records.
- Process and record deposits via cash, check, credit card and online systems into QuickBooks. As well as making the deposit at the bank.
- Assist with Accounts Payable, process and record payments; prepare items for sign off.
- Manage credit cards including issuing, removing, and collecting receipts to enter and reconcile.
- Manage the office petty cash fund for our three branches.
- Maintain deferred revenue and expense tracking spreadsheets.
- Prepare the monthly benefits journal entry.
- Assist in payroll processing as needed.
- Assist in the month-end close as needed.
- Manage and maintain the Finance email inbox.
- Perform general clerical duties to include, but not limited to phones, scanning, copying, mail, ordering supplies and filing.
- Support the work for the annual audit.
- Supports the Finance Department with ad hoc projects as needed.

Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of one year of work experience in finance, accounting, or business operations.
- A high school degree or equivalent education.
- Proficient in Quickbooks and data entry.
- Proficient in Google Workspace (Google Sheets) and experience with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coursework towards a degree in accounting.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting for prolonged periods, typing on a computer keyboard, lifting objects of 25 pounds or less.

What does a typical workday look like?
Condition & Location:
- Open office workspace with an active team atmosphere. Using shared workspaces at all three UEC locations.
Schedule:
- Standard business hours with occasional evening and weekend events.
Equipment Used:
- Computer equipment, calculator, printer/copier/scanner/fax.

Team and Supervision
- As a member of the Finance team, you will be managed by the Finance and Evaluation Manager.
- Though all of our teams work together in some capacity, you will most frequently collaborate with employees making purchasing decisions.
- In this role, you may have the opportunity to join Circles or Committees as your schedule and interests allow.
- All UEC team members should expect interaction with volunteers, members, and youth participants.
Organizational Support
- All team members of the Urban Ecology Center work a minimum of 1-2 weekend or evening events each year. Our events are a great way to engage with our communities and see our mission in action; examples include Urban Candlelight Hike, Autumn Celebration, and HKE MKE. Some roles may have increased responsibility for event leadership.
- All team members are asked to support our building hours by providing building coverage, which may include opening/closing the building, communicating with staff on-site, and welcoming visitors or guests. You may sign-up for an ongoing shift or provide backup support.
