The War Memorial Center is seeking an experienced nonprofit accounting professional to join our team. In this key role, the Accountant is responsible for managing all financial, accounting, and payroll activities, employee benefits programs, and parking operations. Responsibilities: 

Financial and Accounting – 75%

  • Record and process all accounting transactions for $2.5M budget in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, including accounts receivable and payable, cash receipts and disbursements, and general ledger entries. Ensure all transactions are recorded accurately.
  • Maintain and follow Financial Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Maintain accounting records.
  • Reconcile Statement of Financial Position and update accounting schedules.
  • Reconcile credit card and ACH deposits.
  • Manage cash funds and reconcile bank accounts.
  • Maintain depreciation schedule and asset log.
  • Prepare cost accounting reports and statistics reports.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Monitor, analyze, and forecast operating results. Prepare monthly financial reports detailing forecasts and variances of actual results to budget. Keep Chief Operating Officer informed of the organization’s financial status.
  • Prepare and file monthly sales & use tax returns, census reports and other requested data.
  • Prepare and issue 1099 NEC Tax Forms and Form 1096.
  • Prepare all schedules for yearly audit.
  • Ensure timely filing of all Corporate documents to City, County, State, and Federal Agencies.
  • Ensure PCI Compliance for credit card processing.

Payroll and Employee Benefits – 10%

  • Responsible for all tasks related to payroll for 14 employees, including the accurate and timely processing of payroll; review and import of hours from the time and attendance system; review of computation of wages and salaries, deductions, taxes, and other withholdings. Prepare routine reports and maintain payroll records. Verify payroll vendor makes timely payments of withholding taxes to government agencies and timely filings of quarterly and annual employer forms. Maintain paid time off calendars. Any other payroll related tasks.
  • Provide orientation for new employees.
  • Enroll, update, and terminate employees in benefit plans. Provide required benefits notices.

Parking Operations – 10%

  • Manage automated parking operations.
  • Review remote management vendor’s service reports monthly.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of parking lot procedures and develop new procedures as needed.
  • Promote public monthly and daily parking. Issue monthly parking cards.

Additional Job Functions – 5%

  • Manage Telephone System and Computer Network/Computer Support with Vendors.
  • Manage the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of computers and office equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting plus five or more years related work experience; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and nonprofit accounting practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows, SharePoint, OneDrive, Word, Outlook, Publisher, and Access, with expertise in Excel.
  • Proficient in accounting and payroll software. Experience with Sage 50 and ADP Payroll a plus.
  • Superior data management and data analysis skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize job responsibilities, and plan well for managing multiple tasks, objectives, and deadlines.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain financial terms in simple language.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work within a small office.
  • Ability to keep company and employee information confidential.
  • Knowledge of group insurance benefit plans.
