CLIENT/DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) supports pharmacy practitioners and promotes and advances hematology/oncology pharmacy to optimize the care of individuals affected by cancer. HOPA’s vision is that all individuals affected by cancer have a hematology/oncology pharmacist as an integral member of their care team.
HOPA supports approximately 4,000 members who primarily work in the United States in a variety of practice settings. HOPA is accredited by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) to provide Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) credit as well as the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) to provide continuing education credit for maintenance of licensure and provides approximately 200 hours of BCOP and ACPE credit annually. Credit hours can be obtained online or live, including at the Annual Conference, which hosts approximately 1,600 attendees each year.
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Development Manager will support fundraising initiatives and operational efficiency through effective campaign management, grant development, and project coordination. This role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to cultivate relationships with stakeholders, and proficiency in fundraising platforms. The ideal candidate will manage multiple projects, maintain accurate reporting, and ensure successful volunteer coordination to advance HOPA’s mission.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (minimum of 37.5 hours/week):
With the oversight of the Associate Director of Meetings and Senior Development Manager, and in collaboration with other HOPA teams, the Development Manager will play a crucial role in supporting fundraising efforts and operational efficiency by managing campaign metrics, grant development, and special project coordination. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, technical aptitude, and the ability to cultivate relationships with various stakeholders.
- Track campaign metrics, revenue, and expenses to support informed decision-making and enhance operational efficiency.
- Assist with processing campaign-related vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to organizational standards.
- Monitor deliverables and assist in participant and volunteer recruitment, coaching, and follow up with HOPA member volunteers for all sponsor activations.
- Research funding opportunities and develop, write, and submit proposals for foundation, corporate, and government grants.
- Maintain grant calendars, reporting deadlines, budgets, compliance documentation.
- Support strategic projects from planning through implementation and evaluation.
- Collaborate with sponsors, Development Team members, and other stakeholders to oversee HOPA special project sponsorships, contracting, payment, and successful delivery of activation experiences.
- Prepare compelling proposals, reports, donor/funder communications, presentations, and other development communications.
- Track funding pipelines, outcomes, metrics, and project progress for leadership.
- Oversee the maintenance of necessary files and systems to track fundraising efforts and donor relations, including a sponsor and donor database.
- Collaborate with team leaders and designated volunteers to develop and manage short-term and long-term special projects as they arise.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills. Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, with 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit development, grant writing, fundraising, program management, or a related field. Demonstrated success researching and managing grant proposals, coordinating cross-functional projects, and managing multiple priorities independently. Experience with fundraising and donor management platforms and other tools, including Cvent, Higher Logic, Monday.com, Smartsheet, Office suite, CRM systems, and data entry tools. Familiarity with volunteer coordination and knowledge of nonprofit fundraising best practices and donor stewardship. Experience working with a healthcare organization, medical association, professional society, or other mission-driven organization is preferred.
TRAVEL REQUIRED:
- Travel for up to 7 days per year
- Some evening and weekend work as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is a full-time position located in our office in downtown Milwaukee, WI and a minimum of two (2) days onsite in the office (including Wednesday as an all-staff-in-office day) are a requirement of the role.
