GiGi’s Playhouse Milwaukee is seeking a community-connected leader to serve as President-Elect. As part of a national network of 62+ Down Syndrome Achievement Centers, our Milwaukee Playhouse is 99% volunteer-run and 100% community-funded. We provide free therapeutic and educational programming that supports individuals with Down syndrome from pre-natal diagnosis through adulthood.

Qualifications 

We are looking for a passionate advocate with strong organizational skills and a deep connection to the Milwaukee community. Whether you have experience in non-profit governance or corporate leadership, your ability to inspire others is our top priority. 

Commitment & Schedule 

Board Meetings: 2 hours, once a month. 

Monthly Average: Approximately 20 hours per month, including strategic planning, community outreach, and committee oversight. 

The Leadership Transition 

To ensure a seamless transition, the President-Elect will serve in a shadowing capacity for 6–12 months. This period allows you to become fully immersed in our mission and operations before succeeding the current Board President for a standard 2–3 year term.

Core Responsibilities 

As the primary visionary for the Playhouse, the President, with support from the Board Officers & staff, oversees the following key areas: 

Strategic Oversight & Governance 

  • Board Management: Preside over monthly board meetings and oversee the recruitment and management of committee heads.  
  • National Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for the GiGi’s Playhouse Inc. national office and participate in monthly Network President’s calls. 

Community & Culture 

  • Ambassadorship: Represent GiGi’s Playhouse within the local community and cultivate partnerships with local businesses and donors.  
  • Core Values: Embody the “Generation G” philosophy, challenging the world to be accepting, generous, and kind.  

Operations & Financial Health  

  • Financial Stewardship: Monitor financial health by maintaining sufficient cash reserves and supporting inter-company billings.  
  • Staff Management: Ensure effective communication and management of Playhouse staff.  
  • Tactical Support: Collaborate with the board to ensure projects and committee action items are completed on schedule.
