Executive Director – MKE Urban Stables | Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Lead an organization where horses and people come together to build community and make a difference.

MKE Urban Stables is seeking an experienced, visionary, and relationship-oriented Executive Director to lead our organization into its next chapter of growth and impact.

MKE Urban Stables is a unique nonprofit organization that brings together horses, education, wellness, and community engagement. We provide equine-based learning and therapeutic experiences for youth, veterans, first responders, and others in our community. We are also proud to provide a home for the Milwaukee Police Department’s Mounted Patrol, creating meaningful opportunities for positive interaction between Milwaukee police officers and the community.

The Executive Director serves as the organization’s chief executive and has the opportunity to shape the future of a growing organization with a compelling mission and strong community relationships.

The Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and entrepreneurial leader who is passionate about people, community, and mission-driven work.

The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, the Milwaukee Police Department’s Mounted Patrol, program participants, and community partners to ensure that MKE Urban Stables is financially strong, operationally effective, and positioned for long-term sustainability.

The successful candidate will be both a strategic leader and a hands-on executive. With a relatively small staff, the Executive Director must be comfortable moving between high-level strategy and the practical work required to move the organization forward.

A significant priority for this position will be fundraising and development. The Executive Director will cultivate relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and community partners while helping to build a sustainable culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership
  • Fundraising & Development
  • Financial & Organizational Management
  • Program & Community Leadership
  • Staff & Volunteer Leadership

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven record of leadership in a nonprofit, business, community organization, or comparable environment along with a genuine commitment to the mission and values of MKE Urban Stables. If you are a mission-driven leader who can inspire people, build relationships, raise resources, and turn vision into action, we would like to hear from you.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience.
  • Experience with nonprofit leadership, fundraising, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors.
  • Experience developing major donor, corporate, foundation, or government relationships.
  • Experience leading and developing staff.
  • Familiarity with the Milwaukee community and its philanthropic and civic landscape is highly desirable.
  • Experience with equine programs, therapeutic programming, veterans, youth development, public safety, or community-based organizations is helpful but not required.
