Position Summary:

The Grants Manager will write and coordinate private and government grants; initiate discussion and decision making with program, administrative, and development team members; seek data and information to inform reporting; establish and steward relationships with foundation staff; write grant proposals and reports; and research new funding sources. This role is the main point of contact for the organization’s grant program and reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer.

Success in this position will be achieved by growing private and government grant support, and the management of the full life cycle of a grant is executed independently from the Chief Philanthropy Officer. The grants manager will support the grant management process from proposal development to grant reporting and closeout including creating a project management timeline and process to gather information from the team in a timely manner, and requirements are completed at a high degree of self-sufficiency and excellence. This position is anticipated to be full-time; however, we are open to someone interested in working less than full-time with the right level of previous experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Identify funding sources to meet fundraising priorities.
  2. Lead collaboration with staff to articulate program activities, metrics, outcomes and intended impact for grant submissions.
  3. Manage the grant application and reporting process for all grants.
  4. Ensure grant application deadlines are updated and manage an annual grants calendar.
  5. Track progress toward grant funding goals.
  6. Update contact and relationship details and document information and activity in CRM.
  7. Manage grant program meetings, setting planning deadlines accordingly to meet application deadlines.
  8. Lead prospect strategy meetings with Chief Philanthropy Officer.
  9. Identify new local, and national grant opportunities.
  10. Serve as or support the primary relationship manager for public and private grant funders.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High degree of organization and ability to manage multiple, overlapping deadlines
  • Motivated self-starter and collaborative team player
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrated strength in written communications (writing sample may be requested)
  • Strong time management and organizational skills while managing overlapping priorities
  • Ability to research grant opportunities and application requirements and assess fit with the organization’s activities and fundraising needs.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting financial goals, deadlines
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback

Qualifications:

  • Four+ years of professional grant writing experience in a nonprofit organization or similar experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, written and verbal communication skills, editing skills, and ability to synthesize information in a compelling and accurate way
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including strong experience with Excel, Sharepoint, or Teams environment, or other Cloud-based system
  • Experience with Basecamp or other Project Management system a plus
  • Experience with database or donor relationship management software

Work Environments:

Work hours are daytime, Monday – Friday and potentially occasional evenings if required to meet grant/foundation needs. The successful candidate will be expected to work in the West Bend and Milwaukee office locations when needed with a flexible schedule and work from home as desired. Opportunities will also arise to support agency events, but attendance is not required.

Salary and Benefits

  • Full-time compensation range: $65,000 – $75,000
  • Health insurance stipend of $5,650 (periodically adjusted for inflation)
  • Participation in employer-sponsored 401K with up to 4% match
  • Generous, flexible Paid Time Off policy in addition to 10 official holidays.
