 Location: Milwaukee, WI – Washington Park Neighborhood

Position Type: Full-time

Compensation: $55,000-60,000 base annual salary, experience and qualifications considered

Reports to: Director of Housing and Social Services

Established in 1962, UMCS has a deep commitment to and long-standing presence in Milwaukee’s Washington Park neighborhood, where it has provided a wide range of social service programs and assistance to low-income, marginalized families, including supportive housing, community health promotion, community organizing, emergency food resources, social work and childcare.

Under the supervision and support of the Director of Housing and Social Services, the Social Services Manager is responsible for the programming and operations of UMCS’s recently renovated Food and Family Resource Center. They will also be responsible for designing and overseeing Food and Family Resource Center-focused outreach to residents in the Washington Park neighborhood in coordination with UMCS’s Neighborhood Engagement Team (NET). The Social Services Manager will work closely with senior leadership to set the strategic direction of the Food and Family Resource Center and ensure that it serves as the leading hub for Washington Park residents to access both free and healthy food and a more comprehensive set of additional resources from UMCS and its partner organizations.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:

  1. Oversight and management of the UMCS Food and Family Resource Center programming, operations and outreach
  2. Oversee intake and registration process for new program participants at the UMCS Food and Family Resource Center
  3. Coordinate with the Director of Development to work with volunteer gardening groups, grocery stores and other partners to ensure a steady, diverse and culturally appropriate supply of free, fresh and healthy foods
  4. In coordination with the Neighborhood Engagement Team, support the management of the UMCS Community Garden
  5. Oversee the operation and harvesting of fresh foods from UMCS’s indoor Flex Farm units
  6. Deliver training/onboarding for all Food and Family Resource Center volunteers and new staff members
  7. Supervise and support volunteers and part-time staff members of the UMCS Food and Family Resource Center
  8. Coordination with Neighborhood Engagement Team and Supportive Housing Social Worker to design and implement outreach efforts to promote the services offered at the UMCS Food and Family Resource Center and to connect with UMCS housing families and residents in the Washington Park neighborhood
  9. Develop and implement programs, both directly and in partnership with other service providers, to provide residents with social work assistance; connect residents to needed services and resources, including case management support if possible and appropriate
  10. Identify, recruit and onboard new partner organizations that will offer onsite resources and assistance to residents at the UMCS Food and Family Resource Center
  11. Serve as the primary coordinator and focal point for UMCS’s operational relationship with Hunger Task Force (HTF); attend HTF partner meetings and advocate for the needs and interests of the community
  12. Oversee the ordering of food commodities and other support offered to UMCS from Hunger Task Force
  13. Ensure that all food and non-food commodities are safely and appropriately stored, rotated and offered
  14. Support agency leadership to effectively manage and strengthen relationships with institutional partners, including donor agencies, government partners and other service providers
  15. Serve as the lead agency liaison and focal point for IMPACT Connect and Unite Us partnerships
  16. Coordination with Director of Development on volunteer recruitment, donor outreach and solicitation for both in-kind and monetary contributions to the UMCS Food and Family Resource Center
  17. Contribute to new proposal development and grant reporting for all Food and Family Resource Center programs and services
  18. Represent UMCS at fundraising events, community gatherings and networking opportunities and promote the programs and services of the UMCS Food and Family Resource Center
  19. Maintain required documentation for the Food and Family Resource Center programs in accordance with UMCS policies, donor rules and regulations and quality assurance standards
  20. Provide for safety, security and confidential treatment of clients and client records

 Qualifications:/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of community resources and demonstrated ability to collaborate with community partners and connect residents to resources
  • Knowledge and experience in child development, parenting education, and case management
  • Demonstrated awareness of boundary/safety and confidentiality issues inherent to case management
  • Skill in using computers, Microsoft Office software, database management and information management systems
  • Ability to write and speak clearly, must be comfortable with public speaking
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with diverse client populations and the broader community
  • Ability to both work independently and function effectively as a team member

Education and Experience:

  • 3-5 years of previous experience working with community-based organizations and supporting individuals and families
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field preferred
  • Leadership and supervisory experience preferred

Basic Requirements:

  • Maintain State of Wisconsin Social Work Certification
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, a vehicle and automobile insurance
  • Requires City of Milwaukee residence at time of hire
