The Board Treasurer plays a critical leadership role in overseeing the financial health and accountability of Wisconsin for Environmental Justice. This position ensures that the organization maintains strong financial practices in support of its mission to advance environmental justice across Wisconsin.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial oversight and guidance to the board and leadership team
  • Review and present financial reports, budgets, and forecasts in a clear, accessible way
  • Monitor organizational financial performance and flag risks or concerns
  • Support the development and approval of the annual budget
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls, policies, and compliance with nonprofit regulations
  • Coordinate with staff and/or external accountants on bookkeeping, audits, and tax filings
  • Advise on long-term financial planning, sustainability, and funding strategy

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Background in finance, accounting, or related field
  • Experience with nonprofit financial management software preferred
  • Ability to translate financial information for non-financial board members
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to transparency and accountability
  • Alignment with W4EJ’s mission and values

Time Commitment:

  • Attend regular board meetings and periodic finance-related check-ins
  • Estimated 3–5 hours per month
