Human Resources Business Partner

The Wisconsin Humane Society is growing and looking for a full-time Human Resources Business Partner to join our HR team! This newly created role will play a vital role in coaching, supporting, and developing our managers and staff to meet our organizational business and people objectives. The HR Business Partner will report to the Director of Human Resources and will support our team of roughly 50 managers and 280 staff across eight locations. The position requires a regular presence at Milwaukee Campus and travel to our other campuses as needed with the opportunity to work in a hybrid format. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Partner with managers to provide hands-on and strategic input and guidance in alignment with our values on people-related issues, including:
    • Performance management
    • Employee relations
    • Coaching
    • Developing supervisors and staff
    • Conflict management
    • Compensation
    • Training
  • Lead and ensure onboarding and training for new managers and ongoing support for current managers.
  • Maintain positive employee relations by demonstrating a responsive, open approach and creating an environment where employees feel safe to ask questions and share their perspectives.
  • Mediate employee relations issues, including conducting and documenting internal investigations.
  • Ensure legal compliance in all guidance and actions taken.
  • Develop and document HR processes, procedures, and policies.
  • Participate in planning and executing human resources projects and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in people management and human resources; degree, certification, or training in human resources preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in a wide breadth of HR functional areas, including strong understanding and track record in performance management, employee relations, and employment law.
  • Commits to and models our values of compassion, respect, and kindness; professionalism; innovation; positive approach; and equity, and ability to coach supervisors and staff on integrating those values in our work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise good judgement and diplomacy.
  • Ability and willingness to travel between WHS locations as needed.

Hiring range: $54,733-$60,815/year

The Wisconsin Humane Society is the oldest and largest shelter in Wisconsin. Founded in 1879, WHS operates shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Door, Brown, and Kenosha Counties, as well as a Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. The organization offers adoption services, youth and outreach programs, veterinary resources for the community, retail stores, volunteer programs, and dog training classes.
