The African American Breastfeeding Network (AABN) seeks a passionate, committed leader with strong financial literacy and experience in financial management or fund development to join our Board of Directors on or before January 1, 2027, for a three-year term.
For nearly two decades, AABN has worked to transform systems, advance birth equity, and support Black families through community-centered care, advocacy, education, and leadership development. As we enter our next chapter of growth and impact, we are seeking our next Board Treasurer to help steward our mission and strengthen the organization’s future.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome candidates from a variety of professional and lived experiences who are deeply committed to racial equity, maternal and infant health, community well-being, and Black-led organizations. We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in financial management, accounting, or nonprofit finance.
Board Member Commitments
The Board Treasurer serves to oversee the overall financial health of AABN and serve as an ambassador, advocate, and steward of AABN’s mission in work totaling around a 4-6 hour commitment per month.
Expectations include:
- Oversee the financial health of AABN, including monitoring internal controls and working with AABN’s accounting team around audits and other fiscal responsibilities
- Review monthly financial statements and present them at regular board meetings
- Help prepare AABN’s annual budget
- Provide input to support the organization’s short- and long-term financial viability.
- Serve on the board Finance Committee and participate on the board Executive Team.
- Attend and actively participate in board meetings and committee work
- Support organizational strategy and governance
- Make a personally meaningful annual financial contribution
