UNITY Lutheran Church is seeking a passionate, relational, and energetic Director of Christian Education (DCE) to lead children’s faith formation (birth-Grade 8) and help families grow in their walk with Christ. Position Summary
The DCE provides vision, leadership, and hands-on coordination of children’s ministry programs, including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School (VBS), and youth fellowship opportunities. This role collaborates with pastors, staff, and volunteers to create engaging, Christ-centered learning experiences that inspire participation and build community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and grow children’s Christian education programs across two campuses
- Recruit, train, and support volunteer teaching teams
- Plan and implement Sunday School, VBS, and youth events
- Partner with pastoral staff on confirmation and other core programs
- Deliver children’s messages during worship (monthly)
- Foster relationships with children, parents, and volunteers
- Develop creative approaches to increase participation and engagement
- Support cross-generational and service-oriented ministry opportunities
- Assist with ministry planning and budget management
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or comparable related experience
- 5+ years of teaching or education experience
- Experience in church ministry and volunteer coordination
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Passion for working with children and families
- Practicing Christian committed to faith-based service
- Curriculum development experience preferred
Schedule Expectations
Flexible schedule which includes:
- Sunday mornings
- Select Saturday evenings
- Midweek programming (especially during the school year)
- Occasional overnight events and summer youth camps
